7 Poker Tips to Step Up Your Game

    July 25, 2017

Poker is a favorite casino game for many. But if you’re just starting to learn, or you haven’t played in a while, your skills could probably use some brushing up. We have rounded up seven fantastic tips and techniques to take your game from mediocre to magnificent! If you’ve ever wanted to become a better poker player, this article will help take your skills to the next level!

    1. Be Consistent

Stick with the same strategy instead of wavering. Elite players don’t try out new strategies just for the heck of it. Instead, they stick to the same tried and true winning strategy every single time. Don’t worry about what happened during the last hand, and don’t make silly moves because you’re bored. Play one strategy and over time, it will pay out.

    2. Don’t Let Your Emotions Control Your Moves

Don’t fall victim to superstition and forget about listening to your gut. Sounds a little backwards, doesn’t it? In poker, your moves should be based on mathematical reasoning, not emotions. Many times new players will let their gut control their moves, and more often than not, it is their biggest weakness.

    3. Pay Attention to the Cards on the Table

After you’ve gotten the hang of the game and are looking to elevate yourself to the next level, try focusing more attention on the cards on the table. Of course the cards in your hand are important, but inexperienced players often neglect to notice what hands could be possibilities outside of what they’re holding. Knowing what you have to beat is often the missing piece of the puzzle you’ll need to win this game.

    4. Observe Other Players

One skill to work on is observing your opponents and analyzing what their “tells” mean for you. When you figure out their signs of bluffing and their strategy, you can use that to help your game. Once you start to understand how you can use this information to your advantage, it can completely improve your game!

    5. Think in Ranges, Not Hands

When you’re trying to analyze what hand your opponents may have, don’t focus on a specific set of cards. Instead, consider all the possibilities that they could have in the situation and then play your hand accordingly.

    6. Know When to Fold

One of the major differences between average players and great players is that the latter knows when to fold, even when they’re holding a good hand. Don’t get married to your cards – even if they look pretty – when you are likely going to be beat. Knowing when to fold sounds like a defeatist strategy, but it really can mean the difference between coming out ahead and losing all your chips in one round.

    7. Don’t Blow Your Budget

If you’re playing in a tournament, be wary about the decisions you make early on. Don’t blow your budget on buy-ins that you’re not sure about. Be careful with your budget, since that’ll limit how long you’re able to play. As soon as your chips are gone in a tournament, so are you.
