Community Aces lends many hands, warm lots of hearts

As the old saying goes, it is better to give than to receive, and the employees at Isle Casino Hotel® Black Hawk know firsthand the value of giving. We’re so proud to highlight the work of our employees who volunteer their time to our Community Aces® program.

Community Aces was launched by Isle of Capri Casinos, Inc. The organization has a rich history of charitable giving and community service that was inspired by the company founder, the late Bernard Goldstein. Since its beginnings, Community Aces has been responsible for millions of dollars' worth of donations to nonprofits, education- centered initiatives and civic organizations. In 2013 alone, company employees put in more than 22,000 volunteer hours. Among the organizations benefiting from these efforts are United Way®, Habitat for Humanity®, March of Dimes® and Special Olympics®, just to name a few.

With the arrival of the holiday season comes lots of opportunities for the volunteers of Community Aces to help make the season a little merrier for area families in need.

    Coats for Colorado
In November, the Isle Casino Hotel® Black Hawk and Lady Luck Casino® Black Hawk locations served as drop off points for the Coats for Colorado program. Casino employees volunteered to deliver three large bags of donated winter jackets to a charity group this winter. More than 2 million new or gently worn coats have found their way to needy families since the initiative began in 1982. Community Aces is one of 120 Colorado-based groups who have lent their assistance for the local nonprofit, which was responsible for the collection of about 77,000 jackets in 2013 alone – now that's one way to spread a little holiday warmth!

    10,000 for Troops
Being a soldier serving overseas makes the holiday season an especially tough time of year, and even the smallest reminders of home can make a big difference to these brave men and women. Community Aces recently joined forces with local radio station KYGO in its mission to collect 10,000 Christmas cards for troops serving in five countries. According to the KYGO website, the cards were shipped out of Buckley Air Force Base. Community Aces volunteers delivered 256 cards to the station Friday, December 5, which helped bump the grand total of cards headed for the hands of U.S. soldiers to more than 13,000! This kind gesture is sure to warm the hearts of the servicemen and women who are unable to be with their families for the holidays.

    Gilpin County Food Bank
Through the month of December, Community Aces will lead the charge in collecting non-perishable and canned foods as well as toiletries that are destined for the homes of the 60 families served by the Gilpin County Food Bank. This cause is certainly one way to be a part of the solution, and giving just a little can go a long way toward making sure area families will have a good meal on the table with which to usher in the holiday.

The Giving Tree and ham donation
Set up within the walls of the Isle®, the Giving Tree will sprout enough Christmas presents for a dozen area families this year. In the spirit of the season, Community Aces also intends to offer between 12 and 15 hams to local schools in the coming week.

Remember, whether it's the gift of a single coat, canned good, Christmas card or simply one's time, the gesture can be enough to touch a heart this holiday season!
